Note from the Editor
This month, the RNA journal is pleased to present the second in a series of special issues. The first was published in January of last year (January 2022; 28: 1–113). Edited by Tom Cech, this issue focused on the topic of RNA protein condensates in biological systems.
The current issue provides a wide-ranging collection of perspectives on a field of intense current interest, RNA therapeutics. Edited by Michelle Hastings and Adrian Krainer, the contributions provide a view of the remarkable versatility of RNA in its diverse roles as a target and therapeutic.
Michelle, an expert in antisense oligonucleotide therapeutics and their applications in rare disease, has been appointed a Professor of Pharmacology and Director of the M-RNA Therapeutics Initiative within the University of Michigan Center for RNA Biomedicine starting in the spring of 2023; Adrian, a Professor at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, has received many awards including the 2019 Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences with Frank Bennett (Ionis Pharmaceuticals) for their development of Spinraza to treat spinal muscular atrophy.
