Glutamine 1594 in the α-finger domain of the spliceosome protein Prp8 (salmon) interacts with the pyrimidine nucleotide found in most 3′ splice sites (shown as sticks) (PDB id: 9DTR). Liu and coworkers show that this amino acid can control how the spliceosome selects 3′ splice sites, potentially by influencing how the C-terminal tail of the Prp22 ATPase (blue) binds.
