Alt-tRNATyr does not contain an intron and neither alternative conformer contains 5′ or 3′ extensions corresponding to the genomic flanking regions. Northern blot hybridization performed on total RNA sample extracted from WT and Trl1 RNAi strains of T. brucei utilizing probes specific for tRNATyr (mature, intron-specific, 5′ leader, and 3′ trailer), tRNAGlu, and tRNAAsp.
