Mitochondrial RNase P pre-tRNA complex (PDB id: 7ONU; Bhatta A, Dienemann C, Cramer P, Hillen HS. 2021. Structural basis of RNA processing by human mitochondrial RNase P. Nat Struct Mol Biol 28: 713–723). Human mitochondrial RNA transcripts are flanked by transfer RNAs (tRNAs). Mitochondrial RNase (mtRNase) P and Z enzymes liberate all RNA species. mtRNase P comprises three protein subunits that carry out RNA cleavage and methylation. Here, the cryo-EM structure of human mtRNase P bound to precursor tRNA is shown. Pre-tRNA is displayed using NDB colors: A—red, C—yellow, G—green, U—cyan; mtRNAse P is displayed as ribbons with catalytic subunit in orange, dehydrogenase in green, and methyltransferase in purple. A disordered 20-residue stretch within the methyltransferase is represented as a dotted line. Cover image provided by the Nucleic Acid Database (NDB)/Nucleic Acid Knowledgebase (NAKB; nakb.org).
