Dimeric M. tuberculosis Phe-tRNA synthetase is shown complexed with unmodified tRNAPhe and a nonhydrolyzable phenylalanine adenylate analog. The topography of amino adenylate-binding and editing sites at different stages of tRNA binding may provide insights for rational design of antituberculosis drugs.
