Most large subunit ES are necessary for optimal growth. Serial dilutions of log phase yeast cultures were spotted onto solid medium and grown either at the permissive temperature (25°C, left panels) or at the restrictive temperature (37°C, right panels). Empty vector (“No rDNA”) and wild-type (WT) controls (“WT rDNA”) are indicated. The nonessential ES are highlighted with gray labels. Note that a less dense culture of ES9L was used. Similar results were observed across at least three independent biological replicates.
