Regulation of osteoblast differentiation by miRNAs. MiRNAs influence different stages of osteoblast differentiation from mesenchymal stem cell to osteocyte. MiRNAs target important transcription factors and genes and affect regulation during each step of differentiation. MiRNAs may have a positive or negative effect depending on the target and stage of osteoblast differentiation. Runt-related transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), osteocalcin (BGLAP), and frizzled-related protein (FRZB).
