The NOT1 MIF4G domain recruits Xp54 and 4E-T to mediate eIF4E- and cap-independent repression by CAF1. (A) Model of repression when a tethered repressor is on the 3′ end of a reporter mRNA. (B) We propose that repression may occur in a similar manner by RNA-binding proteins that recruit the CAF1/NOT1/Xp54/4E-T complex when bound to target mRNAs.
