RNAs inhibit transcript formation when added either before or after basal transcription factors. (A) Varying concentrations of poly(U)50 RNA were added prior to the addition of most of the general transcription factors. Transcription was allowed to proceed for 45 min. (B) A was repeated but with the addition of poly(U)50 RNA after all of the general transcription factors. (C) A and B were performed in triplicate and quantitated.
