Multiple sequence alignment of Nro1. Selected eukaryotic orthologs of Nro1 were aligned using ClustalW (Chenna et al. 2003). Strictly conserved residues are in white on a black background. Partially conserved amino acids are boxed. The apparent conservation of the C-terminal region results in part from the subset of sequences selected. Secondary structure elements assigned from the S. pombe Nro1ΔN54 structure are indicated above the alignment. Black stars below the sequences depict conserved residues near the ligand binding sites, which have been mutated in this study. This figure was generated using the Espript server (Gouet et al. 1999).
