Cosynthesis of aIF1 increases in vitro translation of S. solfataricus 104 mRNA. The 104 mRNA (0.4 μM) was translated in a S. solfataricus in vitro translation system in the presence of increasing concentrations of aIF1 mRNA (0, 0.4, 0.8, and 1.6 μM). The white and the black bars represent the relative protein synthesis rate of 104 mRNA and aIF1 mRNA, respectively. The samples were separated on a 15% SDS-polyacrylamide gel and the radioactive bands were visualized using a PhosphorImager. A graphical representation of two independent experiments is shown. The amount of 104 protein in the absence of aIF1 mRNA was set to 1. The relative signal intensities have been corrected for the number of methionine residues in each protein. The error bars represent standard deviations.
